Pond-side Flowers

Wow, I wish the hydrangeas in our yard looked like this.

School Grounds

Lovely, lovely flowers

Ladysmith Harbor

We saw this lovely harbor while exploring on our Excursion day.

Connie Furgason's Class

Sorry, my calligraphy is very sloppy here, but I'm happy with my first try of a stone walkway and a brick wall. And the pots--nothing a little practice won't cure.

Shawnigan Lake School Dining Hall

Our Conference was held at the Shawnigan Lake School. Outdoor picture to follow, since I took the best photos on the last day.
Jane, Sylvia, Linda at a meal.

Victoria

After an hour and a half ride, we pulled into Victoria. We loaded from the back of the ferry and drove out the side.

Our Ferry Arrives

It appeared out of the heavy fog . . .
There were two cars ahead of us and they contained calligraphers headed for Island Magic, the 2007 international Calligraphy conference, also. One was Christine Anderson who I had met on the last day of the 2006 conference in Virginia.

Witch in the window

More Troll Haven

Just a little gaudy . . .

Bandy's Troll Haven

There is an entire area developed in this theme, with a few upscale houses sprinkled here and there in between the troll houses.

Port Townsend

What a pretty shopping street.

The view from John Wayne Marina

Sequim Lavendar Farm

The other areas have wineries. Sequim has lavendar farms. Beautiful, and they smell good, too.
We were in town during the start of the Lavendar Festival. This photo is taken in the evening after the farm closed for the evening.

Dungeness River Railroad Bridge

In Sequim, Washington, where Debbie Powell visited Linda and Tim O'Neill. Debbie flew in from Orange County, CA and I flew from Amsterdam.

The main canal in Christianshavn

Such a pretty scene

They spend the weekend on their boats

One thing I noticed is that the Copenhagen residents spend the weekends on their boats. They often don't even take them out, they just spend time on them. On one boat, the man and woman were sitting in the seats in the morning when I passed by and they were still there in the late afternoon, when I came back--they were both pretty tan :-)
Note the swan and ducks hanging around under the boat on the left. The man was just feeding the swan who can reach up high enough to take it and the ducks seem to be hoping for something to come their way.

Our Savior's Church

This church has stairs around the OUTSIDE of the spire. I didn't have a chance to climb them, but I'll bet it's quite a view.

Christianshavn - the most beautiful neighborhoos

I thought Christianshavn was the most beautiful neighborhood that I encountered in Copenhagen, although the others certainly had a lot of pretty great spots.

More fun lettering

Oldest houses

This street is supposed to have the two oldest houses in Copenhagen.

Restaurant Signage

This is obviously a restaurant, based on the fork and spoon hanging off the building, but I have no idea what the writing says. It's fun, anyway.

Copenhagen Statuary

Some pretty dramatic pieces and there are a LOT of them in the city

Ida Davidsen Sign

Fun

Grafiti along the canal

Neat old buildings

As seen from the canal tour

Deluxe house boats

Actually, they have some bigger and fancier
than this, but I didn't get a photo

Coppenhagen building

Each of the windows is topped with a different carved face. The building is longer than shown in this picture.

Dragon Spire

Wow, I didn't expect to see a spire made of dragon tails.

Store sign - Monsoon

Fun monoline

Wall decor

The same building had several of these blocks of lettering on the wall.

Entrance detail

Love the dog

Copenhagen Bulding Entrance

Very interesting decoration . . .

The view from Karen's apartment

I apartment-sat for Karen, who just moved to Leiden, but had to go back to Pasadena for six weeks to finish their quarterly closing. It was really nice being downtown, although I got home really late most nights and didn't get to enjoy it for as much time as I would have really liked.
It is a corner apartment with views of canals on both sides. Lots of great windows.

Lettering on store in Old Pasadena

I've always liked the lettering on this store and finally got a good photo of it. We actually have a lot of very nice signage in the U.S.
